📝 FSSAI Registration (Basic)

Who needs it:

  • Small food businesses with annual turnover ≤ ₹12 lakh

Examples:

  • Small retailers, petty food vendors, temporary stallholders, small homemade food units

Key points:

  • Easy and quick process
  • 14-digit registration number starting with ‘2’
  • Valid for 1–5 years
  • Fewer documents needed (ID proof, photo, business details)

🏢 FSSAI Licence (State / Central)

Who needs it:

  • Medium to large food businesses with annual turnover > ₹12 lakh
  • State Licence: ₹12 lakh – ₹20 crore (within one state)
  • Central Licence: Above ₹20 crore OR operating in multiple states / export / import

Examples:

  • Food manufacturers, processors, exporters, importers, large distributors, chains

Key points:

  • More detailed process
  • 14-digit licence number starting with ‘1’
  • Valid for 1–5 years
  • Requires more documents (layout plan, equipment list, FSMS plan, etc.)
